Welcome to Statumen

a new, Denver-based literary journal for creators of all types.

Why statumen?

From Encyclopedia Brittanica: “The statumen was a foundational layer in Roman road construction […] [t]his layer was part of a larger, sophisticated Roman road-building technique that prioritized straightness and durability[…]”

Many modern roads are built upon older roads, reaching all the way back to the original paths the Romans laid down. The statumen, then, is the foundation of all those roads, the foundation of the connections those roads made 2000 years ago, and continue to make today.
